Letters from concerned Seniors, concerning the Homecoming Dilemma. (#4)
To those who cancelled homecoming,
I am a senior at Randolph High School. I attended the Powder Puff Game on Monday night. I was not drunk. I was not high. I did not deal drugs. I was not in possession of drugs. I did not rush the field. I enjoyed a good time with my friends. While the assorted people who did show up to the game under the influence were idiots and deserve to be punished, I strongly disagree with the manner in which you punished them. The removal of the homecoming dance punishes the entire student body for the disciplinary issues of a small few. This is flat our wrong, regardless of whether “life isn’t fair” or “this is how it works in the real world.” Life may not be fair, but if it isn’t, it isn’t fair because people of like you. To punish innocents is wrong, always. Read the rest of this entry »
Letters from concerned Seniors, concerning the Homecoming Dilemma. (#3)
I totally agree that the administration is making an example out of our grade for every other year, even though we did nothing out of ordinary. Anyone who thinks that the only reason we are being punished is because of the game is not getting the whole picture. Several teachers have already said “this is something they should have done a long time ago,” meaning previous senior classes who have showed up drunk/high, stormed powderpuff, or whatever else should have been punished. They weren’t, and the administration gets a lot of grief for it. The game was the last straw and provided concrete examples for the administration to take action. If this was the first year that the game got so out of hand, the administration wouldn’t have made such a huge deal, but it’s just been building up. I understand where they are comign from because they did have to show that our behavior needed to have consequences..but seriously…does our class again need to be the model for every preceding one??

Letters from concerned Seniors, concerning the Homecoming Dilemma. (#2)
So as everyone knows, the seniors had our win taken away for the Powderpuff game (10/15) because we stormed the field afterwards. You know, just like every senior class has done prior to us after winning the game in past years. So we had to “forfeit” and the win went to the juniors instead. However, in the long run, this doesn’t matter because no class points are awarded for the game since freshmen and sophomores can’t participate in this event. Also, everyone knows the seniors won fair and square. But, the discrepancy is that an announcement was made about not storming the field after the game. This announcement was made at the very end of 8th period the day of the game and the bell went off in the middle of the announcement. To top it off, I was in the girls locker room at the time and heard nothing of what was being said, along with the rest of the ladies in there. No one heard this announcement to its full extent, but apparently it was about behaving properly at the game. So why punish the entire grade when no one knew of these new rules and since not everyone was there? I wasn’t there! Read the rest of this entry »
Letters from concerned Seniors, concerning the Homecoming Dilemma. (#1)
Regardless of whether or not you like pep rally or were planning to go to the homecoming dance, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU should be angered by this administrative decision. The senior class of ’08 is being used as a metaphorical head on a stick to warn others that they better not ‘fuck with the administration.’ The punishment exacted upon the senior class and the student body as a whole is unjust, unreasoned, and, to sound completely unintelligent, its utter bullshit.
So the reasoning behind the cancellation of the homecoming dance and the possible cancellation of the pep rally is based on two key things: the large number of arrests on Monday, and the storming of the field on Monday. Let us examine these more closely.
