Today’s foxchasefive discussion: Iraq

with 13 comments

Participation in this week’s discussion has the same rules of each previous discussion. If you have comments you would like to make about the topic, share them as comments in this post. There is no particular format you must follow just try to stay on topic and make responses that are not just YES I AGREE, or NO I DO NOT AGREE. Try to provide a little bit of detail and reasons why you made that opinion. We are providing topics because many have said it is hard to think of something to write about, so here you are, a thought provoking topic.

TODAY’S TOPIC: Iraq

We all know that this is a hot topic and has been for the past several years. With the sad anniversary of the start of the war recently passing, do you believe that the US has changed Iraq for better or for worse? It has been said by a few politicians and media critics that Iraq was actually running better before we touched it, while others have said our involvement, in the end, has brought dramatic changes for the better of Iraq. What is your opinion, and why?

General Discussion?

with 16 comments

Due to some of the moderately contrasting commentary on last week’s picture, I’d like to bring up a discussion on music that everyone can participate with.

Is new music going in the right direction?  If so, what artists are putting it in the right direction?  In the wrong direction?

(suggestion- try to strain away from saying something “stinks” without explaining why.  We’d all love to hear your opinion but complete sentences are welcomed.)

and don’t forget the picture

Today’s foxchasefive discussion: Darfur

TODAY’S TOPIC:  Darfur

President Omar Hassan al-Bashir of the Sudan has recently made a statement that he would not accept UN and AU peacekeeping forces to help prevent the furthurment of genocide in Darfur.  He states that the actual situation has been blown out of proportion, saying that there have been fewer than 9,000 deaths since the start of the conflict.  Almost without doubt, al-Bashir is lying about this number.

The question that is brought up today is, how should the UN deal with this situation?  Should they push on despite the wishes of the Sudanese government, yet destroying the autonomy of the government?  Or, alternatively, should the UN back down, and allow the genocide to continue?
