Sexism.
Sexism. This usually makes people think Women's Rights, or descrimination against women. But what about men? More and more I hear about the court system, schools, and even parents descriminating against men. Schools are starting to center their teaching strategies more on books and notes, which is a well known female strong point. Is this supposed to give America equality?
Here's an example. The military. Women have made movements to join the military and gain higher wages. While this is excellent, and I believe women deserve equal pay, it is not fixing the problem. In the military, officers put men out in the field much longer than women, and in much more dangerous conditions. As a result of this extra work and dangerous conditions, the men in the army naturally should recieve a higher pay. But now because of constant pushing from Women's Rights movements, the "wage gap" as they refer to it, is closing. In the military both Men and Women are now recieving almost equal pay, when men are working hours longer in much more dangerous conditions. A women who works for an hour helping wounded troops in the back should not recieve the same pay as a man who works for an hour risking his life on the frontline, especially when that man has been working for the past 8 hours without sleep or rest.
My second point is descrimination in the court systems. Middle school teacher Sarah Bench-Salorio was convicted of sexually assaulting 11, 12, and 13 year old boys. According to previous court cases she should recieve a minimum of 40 years jail time, maximum of 60 years. She recieved 6. Men are also assumed to be rapists. As some women rights associations say, "Every Man is a potential rapist." In movies, whenever the issue of rape comes up, it is always a man who is the rapist. I have never seen a movie with a female rapist, although I'm sure there are a few out there. This causes women and adults to think ill thoughts of men. I've heard women, when talking of their ex-boyfriends and such, say "All men are the same." This is not true. 19 year old James Merrett wasn't liked at college. He had a girlfriend who thought he cheated on her, and as a result she started a rumor. After some talking around, many people in the college believed that James Merrett had cheated on his girl friend and raped a girl. As a result a group of students stole James's wallet, doused him with kerosene, and set him on fire. When this case was brought to court it was determined that he had never raped a woman, and had never cheated on his girlfriend.
We need to start thinking of men and women as equal, but different. No, I don't believe women should be put in the military on the front lines, because naturally women are much more skilled at tending to wounds and giving strong support from the back. This is not sexism, this is fact. Women and men should also recieve equal punishment. Of course, none of this will ever happen. This is why I suggest the government creates two federal funded associations: One for women's rights and one for men. These associations would monitor all court cases, jobs, and other institutions. By overpowering the women's rights movements, and not publicizing the men's rights movements, we are just going back to square one.
